Working With The Calne Community

The Council works with a number of different organisations in order to provide services and facilities for the community.

Councils & Other Organisations

The Parish Council works together with the following organisations:

Tourism & Leisure

Tourism and leisure are important to the Parish providing employment and bringing visitors into the area who support local businesses. Bowood House and Gardens is the area’s largest attraction.

Rights Of Way

The Parish has almost 100 Rights of Way giving access to the beautiful countryside for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Council is currently auditing the paths with a view to providing improvements and recruiting volunteers to help maintain the routes.

Great West Way

The Great West Way follows the route of the A4 from London to Bristol and passes through the heart of the Parish. Use the Great West Way website to help you plan your visit.

Wiltshire Tourism

Visit Wiltshire has a host of places to visit and things to do whether you are looking for a day out with the family or a longer stay in our beautiful countryside.

National Trust

The National Trust looks after Calstone and Cherhill Downs because of their rich and diverse natural habitats and because the rolling hills and deep enclosing coombes allow people to escape into nature. A climb to the top of Cherhill will have you standing on ancient banks and ditches, once home to Bronze Age and Iron Age families. The later monument stands out for miles around.

Bowood

Bowood House and Gardens is the Parish’s premier attraction. Discover the rich and fascinating history of Bowood House and the Lansdowne family, set within 100 acres of beautifully landscaped ‘Capability’ Brown Parkland. Surrounding the Georgian House is the Italian-inspired Terrace Garden, the Private Walled Gardens, and the herbaceous border, all radiating colour throughout the seasons. Children will be thrilled with the adrenaline-fuelled Adventure Playground featuring a life-size pirate ship.
