A message from Ioan Rees the Chairman of the Parish Council

“At this moment of great national sadness it’s hard not to focus entirely on Her Majesty the Queen’s incredible dedication to serving the nation. However, we should remember that Queen Elizabeth II was also a Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother whose family are now in mourning. On behalf of the Parish Council and our local communities I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to her immediate family.

In 1947 she devoted  her whole life “whether long or short” to serve our country and it’s people, and she has stood by that pledge to the very end. Her commitment to duty and public service over her long lifetime has never wavered.

Her Majesty the Queen was universally admired, respected and held in great affection as our cherished sovereign. That admiration, affection and respect came to the fore in our parish in June of this year, when people joined together to commemorate and celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

For myself, and the vast majority of us, the late Queen Elizabeth has been the only monarch on the throne for the whole of our lives. She was a constant that will be greatly missed; our nation has lost a treasure.”

If you would like to pay your respects or share your thoughts and memories, condolence books are open around the area,

Locally, Christ Church in Derry Hill has opened a condolence book and is open for quiet reflection.
